Purpose of School Council

School Council Purpose:

  1. To improve communication and participation of parents and the community in the management and operation of the school.
  2. To bring communications and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation.
  3. To solve difficult education problems.
  4. To improve academic achievement.
  5. To provide support for teachers and administrators.
  6. To bring parents into the school-based decision-making process.
  7. To assist the local board of education in developing and nurturing participation.
  8. To bring parents and the community together with teachers and administrators to create a better understanding of and mutual respect for each other's concerns.
  9. To share ideas for school improvement.

School Council members must:

  1. Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues.
  2. Regularly participate in school council meetings.
  3. Participate in information and training programs.
  4. Act as a link between the school council and the community.
  5. Encourage the participation of parents and others within the school community.
  6. Work to improve student achievement and performance.
